Over 6,000 models to be recalled due to faulty component
Following BMW and Nissan from a few weeks ago, Volkswagen has recalled some of their vehicles in order to replace Bosch-supplied fuel pumps. The problem arises from some of the pumps featuring a nickel plating that could flake off and cause problems with the part. In particular, Volkswagen has announced the recall of models of the 2015 Volkswagen Golf, Audi A3 and GTI.
In total, there are 6,204 units of these models that are in need of repair. Problems such as these have been known to happen in the past. In this case, it’s possible for the pump’s nickel plating to come off and cause additional friction. If left unchecked, this can eventually result in the component failing. While this is a serious problem, there have been no reports of accidents or injuries resulting from this issue in the Volkswagen models.
While all of these models do not have the exact same fuel pump, they all feature the same nickel plating process.
2015 Volkswagen Golf owners
If you recently bought a model of the 2015 Volkswagen Golf, you will likely receive notification of it being recalled. Owners of vehicles affected by this problems should receive notice of it soon.
Currently, Bosch does not have enough parts to replace all of the defective components, but they are working with automakers to create more pumps to replace the faulty parts. When the parts become available, car dealers will replace the components free of charge for affected customers.
If you don’t receive notification, but still want to see if your vehicle has been recalled, the Volkswagen website has a recall tool, allowing owners to look up their vehicle based on its VIN number located on the driver’s side dashboard or on the sticker inside the driver door jam. The VIN number is also found on your registration. From there, you can see if there are any recalls out for your vehicle.
