2014 VW Golf vs 2015 VW Golf
The 2015 Volkswagen Golf has made a pretty dramatic entrance on the scene this past year, scooping up top industry honors like Motor Trend’s Car of the Year and Green Car Reports’ Best Car to Buy, and earning spots on big name lists like Car and Driver’s 10Best. So what’s getting the redesigned model so much attention from the experts? Today we’ll go over how far this hatch has come in just a year by going over some of the key differences between the 2014 VW vs 2015 VW Golf. It was a great car to begin with, but now it’s even better!
For the purpose of this comparison and to give a general overview, we’re comparing the two Golf models at a similar trim, with front-wheel drive and four doors.
A More Sophisticated Engine
The first and most significant change from the 2014 to 2015 Volkswagen Golf is the replacement of the outgoing model’s 2.5-liter I-5 engine to the turbocharged 1.8-liter I-4. This new engine keeps its larger predecessors horsepower rating alive at 170 and improves torque, all the while providing considerably better fuel economy. The 2014 model was rated by the EPA at 23 city/30 highway, and while that’s certainly competitive with a lot of today’s models, Volkswagen knew it could do even better. The 2015 is rated at 25 city/36 highway.
More Space & Comfort
Another area where the 2015 Golf sees improvements are in its available space and some of the comfort and convenience offerings. In terms of cargo area behind the rear seats, space jumps up from 15.2 cubic feet to 22.8, and with the seats folded down you now get 52.7 cubic feet at your disposal compared to 46.0 on the outgoing model. Other upgrades include the Car-Net connected car system, fully automatic exterior lights, standard Bluetooth compatibility, and leatherette seat trim.
